GROWING NATURAL HAIR THE SIMPLE WAY!

Going Natural? Already Natural? Here are simple steps to grow your natural hair simply.

1. Do your research! Information will make your natural hair journey more enjoyable and help you understand generally what natural hair needs to thrive.

2. Try new things but when you find what works, stick to it. Example: if your hair loves to be stretched out, keep it stretched. Which means for type 4 hair, no wash and goes unless your hair is short enough to not have a bunch of tangles that will drive you nuts to sort out. You can try new ways to style your hair - protective styles or otherwise. You should definitely try different products and new techniques to wash your hair.

3. Do the basics well. What are the basics? Moisture, less manipulation, little or no heat. Simple! Of course these basics can be broken into smaller components which are more detailed. This is where research helps. Watch lots of videos on hair growth journeys especially for your type of hair or your length of hair. Ideally find someone with the same texture and density of hair and learn what might work for you. Always customize routines to suit your own hair and budget though.

4. The methods matter more than the products! We are generally obsessed with products. My theory on this is because products seem to be a quick fix. Oh how we love microwave solutions. But quick "fixes" don't always fix things. Get into the practice of being gentler with your hair, leaving it alone more, adding water to it not just a product and washing it regularly. (These by the way are a summarized breakdown of the basics).

A shrunken old twist out is pictured above. Hair growth itself should not be the main priority. The priority which yields the best results is hair health. For kinky, curly, natural hair a great indicator of health is shrinkage. If your hair shrinks, that's a good sign. If like mine your almost APL (Arm Pit Length) hair shrinks to the base of your neck, you know you have been doing some things right.

These are the building blocks for my natural hair grow thus far. Hope you have found yours.
