Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll

Okay, there won't be much on rock 'n' roll. This is my disclaimer from the outset. This is about sex and love mainly. I just liked the title. (Sorry rockers!)

In this age of information, you can "Google" or "YouTube" all sorts of information. There are tonnes of views on love and sex and lots of additional sources on these subjects in print, on tele, on the net and in different communities. Being tolerant of other peoples views is the epitome of political correctness.

However, as a Christian, I look to Gods Word - The Bible to gain an understanding on what my Creator intended love and sex to look like.

Sex is obviously appealing, otherwise so many wouldn't be fascinated by it. The thing is, there is a context in which it was created to exist. This isn't a "fun fact" for many. Obviously God created one man and one woman. The intention was for humanity to multiply from there on-wards. These two people were together firstly so that there wouldn't be loneliness. Interesting how it all began isn't it?

Now, we have a whole spectrum of love and sexual preferences and advocates to back each up. However, the beginning was beautifully simplistic and straightforward. One man, believe it or not was created to be enough just like one woman should be enough too. This was for love, for friendship, for sex, to have a family, have fun with, be able to withstand conflict and the challenges of life with, etc. This is how it was meant to be. Do we really now know better?

I choose to identify as Christian. It is a decision I have made. I also choose to accept Gods ideas on love - we should love one another, we should show Gods love as Jesus-like people, we should have as a foundation the knowledge that God is love and besides Him we cannot truly know how to love because He models perfect love to us. Then sex. The trickier one. Sex was created for one man and one woman. Who are meant to be together for a life time. That is why it is such a uniting force and why break-ups are heart wrenching when sex was involved.

These are Gods standards and He does not change though we do and we don't always uphold as precious what God has called precious.

We are called to elevate our ways to His lofty standards:

8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

My challenge now to all Christian Women is this:

What do you believe about love and sex?

How do your beliefs affect how you live in these areas of your life?

How about God?
