Happy, Fine, Growing Natural Hair
Quick Update on My 4C Natural Hair which has fine strands and medium density. It's growing and healthy = happy. How? Here is a summary of my last two months:
DECEMBER:
Small braids (as pictured). This was the first time I was "brave" enough to do small braids and I loved them! They are great for;
moisturizing natural hair without it shrinking too much,
protective styling,
length retention and
I washed my hair in the braids and they hold up better than twists.
JANUARY:
Small braids again then in the middle of the month I washed, completely detangled and then twisted my hair for a change of styling options.
January is also the month I realized that my hair is noticeably thicker and feels moisturized for longer. The protective styling (the braids and twists where in a bun majority of the time) and occasional trims seem to have gotten my hair healthy again after the heat damage of 2016.
The first image is my hair at shoulder length (SL), the second is my hair comfortably at armpit length (APL).
The 2018 plan:
Keep my hair in braids or twists 80 – 90 percent of the year.
To be broken down as 10 weeks every quarter my hair must be in a protective style.
Deep conditioning with heat.
My hair looked and felt so much more cared for and moisturized in a short time after seating under a hooded steamer. I want to try this method of deep conditioning once a month.
Bi-weekly wash days.
The ordinary washing of my hair with a gentle shampoo and one or two types of conditioners.
Hydrating in the week that I don’t wash my hair.
Pouring water on my hair for more than simple moisturizing or moisturizing until my hair is damp. Sealing with an oil and / or a cream.
Scalp massages.
At least four times a week for about 2 minutes. (already not doing well with this but it's part of the plan).
One of the things I have grown to love most about my hair is that it isn't perfect, it isn't what is seen in the majority of YouTube videos on natural hair but it's uniquely mine and I have grown to understand it and it's now showing me some "love" back
